On Tuesday, December 6, 2011, for a White House-sponsored conference on partnerships between the federal government, religious and neighborhood groups, Karin Norington-Reaves, Director Cook County Works, was a panelist representing Chicagoland Workforce Board. Here are some of the topics of concern: http://www.dol.gov/_sec/newsletter/2011/20111208.htm
Nearly 700 local leaders convened at the University of Illinois at Chicago on Tuesday for a White House-sponsored conference on partnerships between the federal government and religious and neighborhood groups. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel kicked off the event with a challenge: "I need the ministers to come outside the door of the church where there is warmth and bring that warmth out into the streets." The Labor Department led two workshops: the first focused on Chicago's local workforce investment system and featured Byron Zuidema, regional administrator for the Employment and Training Administration, and the second was a training session on job clubs led by Ben Seigel, deputy director of the department's Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships.
Jobs: Training and Workforce Development
Jobs are the number one priority in these economic times. In this session, learn about efforts at the federal and local levels for getting Americans back to work. Government panelists will discuss the federal workforce development system's resources and Chicago/Cook County's recently re-structured system. Nonprofit and foundation panelists will discuss local programs and keys to partnering. Workshops participants will learn about a range of exciting programs and come out with ideas on how to connect with the workforce development system to help their communities and constituencies access occupational skills and jobs.
